Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Two weeks ago, I had an internal pec tear (flat benching, should have known better). No deformity but bruising 2 days later. Just started full range movement today. Didn't realize that muscle tear is such a common injury until I hear other people going through it.
Good luck with your recovery.

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Sounds like you have an excellent plan. I see the deformity and the eccymosis. Your right, most people don't have surgery in this case since you will regain the majority of function. In your case, I completely understand. Get the MRI and consult a surgeon to see if they can perform a more cosmetic repair. Reattatching pec origins is dependent on the area of tear, quality of tissue remaining, and repair method...find an excellent surgeon who has done this many times before.
I gave up wide grip benching yrs ago.

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Get if fixed as quick as possible. Pref with in 10 days of the accident. Also I suggest aggressive BUT smart rehab and recovery.

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
the injury occured 10 days ago but I have been moving as swiftly as I can. This is why I'd like to get a list of possible surgeon's together so I can present it to my doc & see what he says.
thanks,

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Couple great docs at the Cleveland Clinic Sports medicine dept. Brems, Anderson, Shickendantz, Ionatti. You can look up the Sports medicine dept by google search, I don't remember the # offhand. Shickendantz repaired a partial tear at my elbow and did a great job. Ionatti repared my mom's rotator cuff and she did extremely well with very little rehab.

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Has anyone swore off flat benching? I'm noticing pains, tightness and the sensation of someone pouring ice cold water on my right delt/pec insertion.

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Sorry to hear that dude. I feel your pain. i tore my pec/delt tie dec. 23rd. And I haven't trained chest since. I went to the Eagles and Philly's ortho. and from what I heard and experienced they are one of the best. Its the Rofman Institute in downtown Philli, PA. They was beyond helpful. THere were a team of Doctors that sat down to discuss my options. Being 3 weeks until I saw them, I needed to make a decision soon as possible about going under the knife. I chose not to have surgery. I have been slacking on the rehab, But at first I was getting ultra sound and electric stims 3-4 times a week. I was just able to M. Press on the hammer st. this week. I have been training around my injury using proper form. No more flat bench for me. Good luck with your recovery!

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Layne,
Another contact for you who has done pec and biceps re-attachments on two friends of mine (to their satisfaction). He's not in your area, but you might be able to find someone via this him.
Brian D. Solberg, MD
Orthopedic Surgery

Los Angeles, CA 90048
(310)423-9954

Good luck, Layne. Let's hope its like what Jax suggests.
Also, FWIW, if it were me (I am an Oriental bodyworker, among other things), I would find a professional to massage the fibers in the direction of their original attachment. I have seen and heard other reports of this working on torn musculature (e.g., reshaping a biceps torn at the M-t junction). Its not a very pleasant treatment (on either a fresh injury or an old one), but its an option for you, especially if surgery is not. Hit me up here or on Intensemuscle.com and I can help you find someone qualified in your area. (The people I know who are trained, can and are willing to do this kind of work are martial artists who are also bodyworkers and usually acupuncturists and/or herbalists.)

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
Thanks Tim/Dante. I've been trying to get in touch with Dr. Prisk b/c I know this is very close to his area but not having much luck so far.
I have a few options as I am within driving distance of chicago, indy, and STL and all have multiple pro sports teams so I'd imagine there are very good surgeons in each town. Just trying to get some names

Re: Partial Pec Tear surgery
i swore off benching years ago after my 3 pec "strains" figured it wouldn't be long for a tear when you add it up.
Good luck with your surgery.
